Guild Charter

The Monks Guild was originally established to allow for a place for those with varying thoughts and ideologies to come together to gain some peace in their pursuit of enlightenment, or to share their philosophies in the same pursuits.  Over time, the variety of thought and philosophies began to be such as to estrange some and force others to leave.  It was then that the elders of the time came together and form a consensus that all such discussions and theories be respected, however in doing so the guild must remain balanced at all times to properly respect all ways of life.

With this new age of reasoning, a new enlightenment came unto the guild - and the monks were known as great philosophers and thinkers, respectful to all.  Their knowledge of the lands became great, and were among the first 'civilized' people to welcome orcs, half-ogres, and some of the other less welcome races into their midst - assuming of course they adopt the monk's philosophy of neutrality and balance.  It was about this time that the great wars shook the land of Diogen, and the monks guild was not exempt from the pain and sorrow of war.  For when the wars started up - being sages and philosophers, they had no armaments, no means of defense - and those that did not run were easily killed.  Gradually over the years, the surviving monks began to harness their knowledge over spirituality and the body to form, out of necessity, a weaponless means of defense.  By the war's end - even though they had lost a good portion of their members in conflict - the guild had become renowned for their ability to stand their ground and defend themselves without the benefit of weapons, armor, or the higher mystical arts.  It was this war that brought about the current philosophies of balancing the spirit, mind, and body to form a true balance within each member, and with it a balance within the guild itself so that the guild would thrive and survive times of conflict.

The guild, although encouraging individuality of thought and action has come up with the following tenants to ensure that the balance may be maintained:

1> Respect of all and their beliefs must be maintained to ensure a
continuity and evolution of thought exists.
2> As part of this respect, monks shall not intentionally harm another
civilized being, nor any innocents, or guards.
3> Elders and those of distinguished rank or status should strive to make
themselves available to aid newer members of the guild first, and if
time permits, those newer to the lands of Diogen.
4> OOC - public channels shall be used for the promotion of RP and to

aid  others.  Not for swearing, nor giving/asking for quest info.
5> OOC - abide by Diogen's terms of service.
6> OOC - Have fun and remember that this is just a game!
